I need to restore a database from a Unix AIX platform to a WIndows 2000 platform. ORacle version is the same 8.1.6 Can I just use the datafiles from the unix machine and copy to the Windows machine? Not enough space on original machine and no others avaialable ! Help!

No, the file headers are different between the 2 platforms. Your best bet would be to export from the old and import into the new.

No, you can not do that. File systems are different.

Cloning database on different platform could be done either by export/import or RMAN cloning. Check the RMAN docs for more details.

The 9i RMAN manuals say this is NOT possible.

Unless I'm missing something....
